In October, November and December I like to spend time at the club. My club is not the Lake Joseph club and the luxuries there. My club is at Norm's garage. There are no membership fees yet membership is prized. At Norm's garage there are no spectacular views, nor is there an award winning golf course. What there is a wood burning stove, the smell of cars, a work bench and every once in a while an antique Grevette that needs sanding and refinishing.

Every year in December Norm buys a few pigs at the farmers markets in St. Jacob's and brings them up to Muskoka. All the members of the club gather to butcher the pigs. Some bacon is put on the stove and we have a good little fry up. Packages of pork are rapped and labeled for the freezer. I wouldn't want to get all my meat this way but once a year sure makes for a fun get together. At Norm's garage there is always a jug of wine ready to consumed, there is always beer in the fridge.

What I like most about the garage in the camaraderie between the guys. We talk about everything and nothing. In fact after I leave it is hard remember how I could have spent an entire after noon at the club and have no idea what it was we talked about. It always comes back to the same basic points. "yes the government is screwing us" , "any luck fishing and what did you use as bate?", "do you remember the time... " etc. Why is it that food tastes better in the garage?
